Yogyakarta, August 14, 2025 – The Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) participated in the Intellectual Property Xpose (IPXpose) 2025 event, which officially opened at Smesco Jakarta on Wednesday (8/13/2025). The event was attended by three cabinet ministers: the Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Supratman Andi Agtas, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Teuku Riefky Harsya, and the Minister of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MenKopUKM) Maman Abdurrahman. IPXpose 2025 was organized by the Ministry of Law through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) as a strategic effort to raise public awareness about the importance of intellectual property (IP) protection. This activity also served as a platform to encourage an increase in the competitiveness of MSMEs through the optimization of trademarks and geographical indications, as well as to strengthen the collaboration network with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

In his opening speech, Minister Supratman emphasized that IP protection must go hand-in-hand with commercialization to provide a tangible impact on the national economy. “We encourage cross-sector synergy, involving ministries/agencies, banking, WIPO, and the educational world to build a sustainable IP ecosystem. This includes strengthening research, technology development, patent protection, and refining a transparent royalty system,” he said. As a form of this commitment, the government launched the Jakarta Protocol, a strategic initiative to position Indonesia as a pioneer in international royalty governance. This Protocol is expected to be a catalyst for innovation and knowledge-based economic growth.
WIPO Director-General, Daren Tang, on the same occasion, expressed his appreciation for the development of the IP ecosystem in Indonesia. “Indonesia’s potential to become the center of IP innovation in the ASEAN region is enormous. WIPO has established cooperation with various ministries through the signing of MoUs for strengthening the capacity of business actors, including the integration of IP into MSME micro-financing,” he explained. As the institution managing intellectual property within UGM, IPMO also contributed to the series of IPXpose 2025 events through various activities. A representative of UGM IPMO stated, “Our participation in this event is a form of UGM’s commitment to encourage the commercialization of innovations created by the academic community. We are also actively involved in strategic discussions related to the development of the national IP ecosystem.”

The Intellectual Property Management Office (IPMO) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) not only participated actively in the Intellectual Property Xpose (IP Xpose) 2025 event but also successfully won the “Most Educative Booth” award from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI), Ministry of Law and Human Rights. This award was given in appreciation of UGM’s contribution to promoting public understanding of intellectual property (IP) through an interactive and informative booth. During the event, which took place from August 13-16, 2025, at Smesco Jakarta, UGM also presented its strategy for the downstreaming of intellectual property through the integration of the Science Techno Park (STP) and IPMO. This presentation was delivered by Prof. Ir. Sang Kompiang Wirawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., who emphasized the importance of collaboration between academic research, industry, and policy to drive IP commercialization.
IPXpose 2025 featured a variety of engaging activities, including an IP Clinic offering free consultation related to IP registration, workshops interactive in the fields of coffee, spices, and creative content creation, an exhibition of leading IP-based products from various regions, IP Talks forums, and business matching sessions. More than 500 participants, consisting of business actors, innovators, academics, and other stakeholders, attended the event, which lasted until August 16, 2025.
Minister Riefky Harsya added, “IPXpose 2025 serves as a collaborative platform that brings together various stakeholders to jointly realize the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045 through the strengthening of the innovation ecosystem.” Through its participation in IPXpose 2025, UGM IPMO further affirmed its position as an integral part of the development of the national IP ecosystem, while also strengthening the network of collaboration between the academic world, industry, and the government.
